Preparation of the Akhaltsikhe General Plan Has Begun
The Kick-off Meeting for the preparation of the Akhaltsikhe General Plan was held on 26 November 2025, officially marking the launch of the project. The project is being implemented by the Spatial and Urban Development Agency of Georgia (SUDA) with financial support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The meeting brought together representatives of the Akhaltsikhe Municipality, the Samtskhe-Javakheti State Representative’s Administration, the Spatial and Urban Development Agency of Georgia, and the consulting consortium comprising CITYFÖRSTER, BAU Design, and BCI Global. Participants were introduced to the project’s objectives, work plan, key implementation phases, and expected outcomes.
The discussion focused on the city’s main development challenges and opportunities. Particular attention was given to improving urban development management, strengthening transport and logistics potential, addressing environmental issues, and planning priority investment projects.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the participating parties agreed on the next steps. The municipality committed to providing the data and background materials required for the project, while the consulting team initiated field surveys, stakeholder interviews, and other preparatory activities that will form the foundation for the development of the Akhaltsikhe General Plan.
