Planning Lab Held to Advance the Ozurgeti General Plan Concept

July 10, Ozurgeti – Day II – Planning Lab
The workshop was held at the Ozurgeti Technolab. The participants included representatives from
relevant municipal departments and private sector professionals active in the city. The objective of
the meeting was a joint discussion of the core principles of the spatial development concept,
development prerequisites, and potential risks.
The workshop opened in the same format as in Akhaltsikhe. The consultant asked the participants
an open-ended question about the main challenges of the master plan, after which each
participant named one of the primary problems facing the city's development, according to their
assessment.
In the second working session, participants were divided into two groups and worked on the base
map to develop working maps for conceptual zoning. The groups developed alternative visions for
development and defined the principles for developing various functional areas.
Before discussing the results, the consultant presented the Tactical Urbanism approach and
successful examples of international practice to the participants, which served as the basis for a
discussion on the potential of small-scale, rapidly implementable spatial interventions in the city.
During the discussion, participants debated specific areas and development opportunities, while
the head of the municipal infrastructure department presented an ongoing infrastructure project
(Render 1), which was used as a practical case study for the discussion.
