Multi-Stakeholder Workshop Held as Part of the Ozurgeti General Plan

As part of the preparation of the Ozurgeti General Plan, a Multi-Stakeholder Workshop was held on 3 April 2026, bringing together representatives of central and local government, sectoral agencies, the private sector, the tourism industry, and the consulting team. The workshop aimed to review the city’s development vision and alternative development scenarios, gather institutional perspectives, and refine the strategic development directions for the General Plan.

During the workshop, participants discussed Ozurgeti’s principal development opportunities and challenges. Particular attention was given to strengthening environmental management, protecting river systems, promoting the development of agriculture and tourism, reinforcing the city’s economic role, planning a functional urban area, and unlocking the potential of the city’s industrial cultural heritage. Ongoing infrastructure projects and approaches to environmental risk management were also reviewed.

The discussions highlighted the importance of integrating natural resources, agriculture, and tourism as complementary drivers of development, strengthening Ozurgeti’s connections within regional networks, making more effective use of investment opportunities, and considering the functional relationships between the city and surrounding settlements throughout the spatial planning process. Participants also emphasized the need for strong interagency coordination and strategic planning.

The outcomes of the workshop will inform the refinement of development scenarios, the selection of strategic development directions, and the next stages in the preparation of the Spatial Development Concept for the Ozurgeti General Plan.
